2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series Sonoma Preview
It’ll be the second straight weekend of road course racing for the NASCAR Xfinity Series as they head to Sonoma Raceway for the Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 250. Coverage begins at 8PM EST on FS1.
Last year’s race marked the first time the Xfinity Series raced on the 1.99 mile road course. The race was won by Aric Almirola in a shocking upset, earning Ryan Sieg Racing their first win.

Ty Gibbs +275
Ty Gibbs enters this weekend as the favorite in his third Xfinity start on the season. He finished 4th in last year’s race and is looking for his 13th career Xfinity Series win. FOur of his twelve wins in the Xfinity Series have come on road courses, including his first career win in his first career Xfinity start at the Daytona Road Course.
AJ Allmendinger +300
It’s pretty much known thay AJ Allmendinger is one of the best road course racers in NASCAR, but he’s on the hunt for his first win this season. His teammate SVG won last weekend at Portland and AJ was the runner up to Aric Almirola in last year’s Sonoma race. Expect him to ruffle some feathers this weekend in wine country.
Shane van Gisbergen +300
Shane van Gisbergen was the big winner from last weekend’s Portland race, scoring his first career Xfinity Series win. With his ticket to the Playoffs clinched, he can take a different approach to Sonoma this weekend…or the Kiwi can race as aggresive as he wants and go back-to-back in victory lane.
Sam Mayer +900
Sam Mayer never got properly settled in last weekend, from being dumped on the opening lap in the first turn, to cutting a tire with two laps to go while running third, to finishing 28th. Mayer is an excellent road course racer, with three of his five Xfinity Series wins coming on road courses.
Justin Allgaier +1100
Justin Allgaier dominated last week’s race, leading 46 of the 75 laps at Portland. But it was just a matter of time before SVG came through and took over late in the going. He still finished 2nd and finished 7th in last year’s race at Sonoma. He’ll be one to keep an eye on all weekend.
Parker Kligerman +1800
Parker Kligerman was the highest finishing Xfinity Series regular in last year’s race, finishing 5th. He’s still on the hunt for his first career Xfinity win, with the closest he came to ending that was at Road America. His only Top 5 finish this season came at COTA, it should be interesting seeing how he lines up this Saturday.
Boris Said +6600
Boris Said failed to make last year’s Charlotte Roval race due to a mechanical issue, so we’ll keep our fingers corssed that he’ll make the show on Saturday. Said does have a good history with Sonoma, winning a Craftsman Truck race back in 1998, along with five Top 10 finishes in Cup competition. He’ll be in the #17 HendrickCars.com Camero on Saturday, if he makes the show, don’t count him out.
