NASCAR Xfinity Series Predictions at Michigan
NASCAR Xfinity competition heads to the Irish Hills of Michigan International Speedway for the Cabo Wabo 250 at 3:30 PM EST on NBC.
Last year it was Ty GIbbs picking up his 5th win on the 2022 season for Joe Gibbs Racing, defeating the likes of Justin Allgaier and Noah Gragson.
Ty Gibbs enters this weekend pulling double duty, racing both Saturday and Sunday. He enters as the favorite to win, as he makes his 6th start on the Xfinity Series calendar. He’s failed to finish one race this season, with a 37th place finish at Nashville. Other than that, he’s finished 3rd at COTA, 5th at Charlotte, 4th at Sonoma, and 6th at Atlanta. Toyota is looking to sweep the weekend, having Gibbs in the Xfinity race gives them the opportunity to accomplish that task.
Justin Allgaier finished 2nd in last season’s race and enters as the favorite amongst the Xfinity regulars. Michigan is a track where Allgaier runs fairly well at, but has yet to score a win at the two mile oval. He’s racked two Top 5’s, five Top 10’s, and scored an average finish of 8th since the move to JR Motorsports in 2016. He enters this weekend looking to score a good finish, with only one Top 10 finish in the last four races. After Sam Mayer’s win at Road America last week, the rest of the cars at JRM will be looking to add to the win total for 2023.
Josh Berry is apart of the four car powerhouse in JR Motorsports, still searching for his first win of the season. Berry has two starts at Michigan, resulting in 4th in 2021 and 6th in last year’s race. The #8 car has also recorded a 5th place finish at Auto CLub this year, the other two mile oval on the schedule. Looking for momentum to continue after a 6th place run in Road America, he looks to add another Top 5 this season on Saturday.
AJ Allmendinger is also pulling double duty this week, looking to return to victory lane. In 2021, it was the #10 of Allmendinger who emerged victorious, leading 70 of the 139 laps. He finished 7th in last year’s race, and is seeking redemption after finishing 9th at Road America. Saturday will be Allmendinger’s fifth start of the Xfinity season and second on an oval. The other oval start came at Nashville, a race that he won. Keep an eye on the DInger in the Irish Hills.
Brandon Jones enters in what is arguably his best race track on the Xfinity schedule. He’s won twice in the ARCA Menard’s Series in 2016 and 2017. His Xfinity resume backs that up, with finishes of 6th in 2019, 2nd in 2021, and 4th in last year’s race. Jones has only recorded five Top 10’s in 2023, with two of those coming in back-to-back weeks. Expect some more speed to come out of this #9 for JRM as he sits 61 points outside of the Playoffs heading into this Saturday.
